Andrew Benton’s Ultimate Cheese Board!
We’re so excited to have “big brother” Andrew Benton of Benton Brother’s Fine Cheese put together an epic cheese board for you! Andrew’s passion for cheese and wine shows through in everything he does, and this artisan cheese board is no exception.
His first pick is Don Alvaro’s Manchego, and ivory coloured semi-firm sheep’s milk cheese with a delicious nutty flavour and fruity undertones. His next pick is Le Mont-Jacob cheese from Fromagerie Blackburn- a unique award winning cheese which is aged for 60 days, and has delicate aroma and flavour of fruit and roasted peanuts.
What’s a cheese board without Brie? This Island Brie from Little Qualicum Cheeseworks is smooth and creamy, with a mild earthy, mushroomy flavor. Andrew had to include their most popular cheese- Cave Aged Gruyere by Von Muhlenen, known for its rich flavour and slightly crunchy texture from crystalized milk proteins. One of the best classic Canadian Cheddars available today is 4 Year Raw Milk Cheddar from Fromagerie Perron, a moderately sharp cheddar with an outstanding depth of flavour.
To complement the cheese, we have Fig & Walnut Wine and Raspberry with Merlot & Peppercorn Preserves from the Preservatory. The cheese is plated on a large wooden platter, with two kinds of crackers, dried apricots, cranberries, and hazelnuts. Gather your friends around this amazing cheese board, with a couple bottles of wine and good conversation.

ABOUT BENTON BROTHERS FINE CHEESE
Engineer brothers turned cheesemongers, specializing in Artisan Cheese!
As the name suggests, this company is owned and operated by two brothers, Jonah and Andrew Benton. Both brothers studied engineering before falling in love with the cheese business. After Andrew graduated, he was looking for a job in his new field and his Dad suggested looking for another job in the meantime. Andrew ended up taking a position at a cheese shop (which his Dad approved of, thinking of the possibility of cheese discounts). As Andrew’s passion for cheese grew, he shared it with his brother, Jonah, who had been working as an Engineer for a couple years, and the rest is history.
After about a decade working in the cheese industry in Alberta and Ontario they relocated to Vancouver and started Benton Brothers Fine Cheese in 2007. They sell the highest quality artisan cheese from Canada and around the world. You will find these cheeses are often more complex in flavour as they are made by skilled cheesemakers with age-old recipes and without machinery. With the Brothers’ passion for all things food, wine, and cheese, it’s no wonder Benton Brother’s is a mainstay of the Granville Island Community.
