ABOUT JJ BEAN
Quintessential Vancouver coffee roasters.
Fourth generation coffee roaster John Neate Jr, or JJ, has been in the coffee business since 1945. In 1996, JJ opened up the very first JJ Bean on Granville Island, and today there are 21 locations across Vancouver. JJ Bean’s coffee is always our top recommendation on where to get good coffee, and for good reason.
It all starts with their bean selection. They do blind taste testing called “cupping” to determine if the coffee expresses “terroir”. Similar to a wine, each coffee will taste differently depending on the region where it was grown. Once they select the beans, they are imported to Vancouver green and then roasted in small batches, five days a week at their roasting facility on Powell and Victoria. They carefully roast the single origin coffees (from one single plantation) until they are at the optimal level to best showcase the regional flavour profile of that particular bean.
At JJ Bean, they believe in the intrinsic value of people, and seek to honour the coffee producers, their team, and customers by serving only the freshest, best tasting coffee possible. We can’t agree more!
